The check engine light has been on and off for at least a year. I am not sure how long would the new long block would last, or if there is an improvement made to the long block design to prevent the same issue. However, it is running okay, beside the coolant tank is at lower level. The car has a noticeable variation when starting. I haven't decided if I should get it fixed yet. With the tax and a month of rental car, the total cost of replacing this lower engine block failure would be close to $9000. Unfortunately, I am a few months or few thousands miles out of the powertrain warranty. Recommendation of the repair estimate $6930.64 plus tax. Reference to service bulletin #22-2229 Issue: Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/Escape/ Vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Removed spark plugs and borescope inspected, found coolant in #3 cylinder. Ran engine to normal operating temp and pressurize cooling system for 5 hours. Ran oasis, found TSB 22-2229 states possible coolant intrusion in cylinder. It took 2 months to schedule an appointment with a local Ford dealership for a diagnostic. The engine light was on in June, and I noticed that the coolant was low. This edge was a leased car with around 30,000 miles on it in 2020. Most importantly, though, I WILL NEVER AGAIN SPEND MONEY ON A FORD PRODUCT. I will definitely add my name to this suit. Since then, I have learned that there is a class-action suit for this. I contacted Ford regarding compensation for the repair and was told that since there is no recall, Ford will do nothing regarding this issue. The fix: replace the engine! So, Ford knowingly sold vehicles with engines that would need to be replaced, and refuses to take responsibility. Our mechanic found a Technical Service Bulletin describing this exact issue on 5 different Ford models covering 5 model years. Less than 20,000 mile later, the exact issue recurred. We paid over $2800.00 to correct the issue, which included practically a complete top end rebuild. Having bought the car used from a dealership, there was no repair warranty. We noticed that the car ran rough just after starting it, and occasionally while driving. I won't give up without a fight! I know my 2017 that I just paid over $20,000 for is still worth more than the $8,000+ that the engine will cost. They agree to replace the engine, but are being insistent on only paying part of the cost, leaving me with a few thousand out of pocket - even though my warranty papers say it covers replacement parts not to exceed the value of the car. The complaints logged here helped tremendously in getting the shop to do more than just run the head gasket test, so thank you to everyone who has posted. This is when they saw the coolant spilling into the number 2 cylinder. I took it into the shop again and they ran multiple tests before finally sticking a camera in the engine. I drove it one day and the light came back on with the same code. They also ran a head gasket test which passed. Off to the shop to have it checked and they thought it was just a bad plug so they changed it. I haven't even drove the car 500 miles yet and I started hearing water running sounds when I was driving it. Just bought the car and thank goodness our car lot put a factory type warranty on it through ASC.
